Installers are trying to meet the changing needs and wants of consumer demand, as 76% of UK households (source: ITC, June 2002) now own more than one TV set writes Kavshika Makwana at Solutions Group. This shows that there is a rising increase in consumers watching TV in different locations within their home, such as bedrooms, kitchens and study rooms. With increased viewing locations, installers need to meet consumer demand and think about the right way of distributing TV in different areas. We take a closer look at three diverse ways of distributing TV for across the home.

A = TV Link Eyes
The TV Link Eye system introduced by Global Communications has been popular with installers and end-users. The TV Link Eye is a very simple and effective solution for those who want to access Sky in a second room. The installation saves money for the customer because they do not need to buy an additional Digibox, and also saves storage space and time on installation. Global Communications have now launched a new silver-coloured TV Link Eye. This new colour has been introduced to compliment the mainly silver and chrome finish of current home entertainment equipment.

Pros:
- Able to control Digibox from another room
- Can be upgraded by using Global l Distribution amp
- Available in a colour to compliment current entertainment systems
- Cost efficient

Cons:
- Can be a messy job as need to fit cabling system
- Can only watch the same channel shown on the Digibox
- Can be time consuming
- Only one extra room

The Global TV Link Eye is available from your nearest Solutions Group depot by quoting Stock Code A96034. Solutions Group recommend that you use outlet plates by Vision, such as the V35-101 (Stock code A89251) and a good quality double-screened cable, typically Webro H109F (code A47601).

B = A bypass in your home
If you don't want to replace your existing distribution amplifier, the TV Link Bypass Kit, manufactured by Philex and obtainable from Solutions Group, is ideal for the installer to supply Sky in a second room of a customer's house through the TV Link Eye system. The Bypass Kit carries the 9 Volt DC that is required to make the TV Link Eye work. It is bypassed around the existing distribution amplifier and returns back onto the coaxial cable, which then feeds the TV Link Eye into your television. The Bypass Kit is a money saving device that is far cheaper than buying a new distribution amplifier or an additional Sky Digibox. It is easy to install and can provide viewing in a number of different rooms.

Pros:
l You can upgrade the system to work with an existing distribution amplifier
l Able to control Digibox from another room
l Can view in up to eight rooms

Cons:
l Time consuming due to extensive wiring
l Same channel in each room

The TV Link Bypass Kit is now available from Solutions Group by quoting stock code A97598.
