Talking
Sky remote
Well,
not quite. But you can get a Sky or Sky+ remote to "tell you"
what TV code has been set. Press <TV>, then <select> &
<red> together for 2 seconds. The LED should flash twice. Now press
<9><9><0>. The LED will blink twice. To read the TV
code, press <1><2> and count the LED flashes. The number of
flashes tells you the first digit. Then press <3> and count the
flashes for the second digit. Then press <4> for the third digit.
Remember, this only works when a TV code has already been entered into
the remote.
LNB
Advice
Recent
investigations by Sky have shown problems arising where installers have
“mixed and matched” LNBs and dishes. This has happened not
only on initial installation and later service calls but also when a single
LNB has been replaced with a quad for Sky+ or a second box connection.
Of particular concern is where an LNB whose feed horn is designed for
round dishes is used on an elliptical dish. This practice cannot fail
to degrade the signal quality and leave the receiver much closer to its
threshold. A receiver close to threshold will block and freeze and lose
reception in even minimally bad weather delivering a service to the customer
that is substantially poorer than they have a right to expect. It should
be remembered that only Sky approved dishes and LNBs should be used for
Sky DTH satellite installations and, even then, only in those combinations
that have the correct mechanical interface.
Resetting
a Sky remote to factory settings
To
avoid replacing a consumers remote unnecessarily, perform this reset procedure
to clear its memory. Press <TV>, then "<select> and <red>"
together for 2 seconds. The LED should flash twice. Now press 999. The
LED will blink one long blink then two quick blinks. Although Sky remotes
state "batteries must be changed within 10 minutes to avoid resetting
user changes", it can take over 24 hours for a remote to actually
forget its settings. If you were trying to reset a remote by removing
good batteries for 10 minutes, it may not work. Try this reset code instead.
Software Updates
It
is very important that a software update is performed whenever a box is
installed for the first time or when an existing box is swapped out during
a service call. The new box may have an older software version without
some of the latest features and fixes. Software update only takes a few
minutes but it will avoid any ongoing glitches or problems old software
may cause and allows the customer to enjoy all the functionality and benefits
of the latest version.
Open...
double blank
Open
keypads have two blank keys, one in each corner. These are "macro"
keys, and can be used to set up a string of keyboard presses to all run
when a the key is pressed. For example, if you want to change channel
to the next of your favourites, do the following. Press and hold the two
shift buttons on the keypad for 2 seconds. The LED will blink twice. Press
a blank key, then <blue>, <up arrow>, <select> then
the same blank key again. Next time you press that blank key, your digibox
will change to the next favourite channel.
Too
many remotes?
Have
you got a surround sound amplifier connected to your Sky+ box and have
to turn it on and off or volume up and down with a separate remote control?
Try this! Press <TV>. Then press <select> and <yellow>
together for 2 seconds. The LED will blink twice. Then select code for
your amplifier. Then press <select>. The LED will blink twice. Now
the green left arrow will toggle your amp on and off and the volume control
now works your amp, not your TV volume!
Turning
on an AV amplifier with a Sky+ remote control:-
1. Turn
on the AV amplifier you wish to operate, press the TV button on the Sky+
Remote Control.
2. Press and hold down <select> and <0> buttons on the Sky+
Remote until the LED blinks twice.
3. Input the 4 digit number from the Sky+ list shown below. The LED will
flash twice.
4. Use the green left arrow button on the Sky+ remote to try and switch
the AV Amplifier into standby. If the standby button works then the other
AV Amplifier functions should also work and the correct code has been
selected.
5. If all functions do not work correctly then repeat steps 1-3 and work
through all the 4 digit numbers from the list until you find a code that
supports most of the AV Amplifier functions.
6.The most popular codes are sorted first within the list, therefore use
the codes in the given sequence one after the other.
If your Sky+ remote is fairly new or you have the Sky Navigator remote
controller, it may be possible to set the normal volume/mute controls
to work your amp rather than the TV.
1. Program the remote as detailed above to control your amp using the
arrow keys in TV mode.
2. Press TV Key
3. Hold down <select> and <1> until the remote's LED flashes
twice (if it only flashes once or remains on your version remote does
not support this feature).
4. Press Sky key.
To reverse the process press <select> and <2>
